Intoxicated Bee

Judge 1:Yellow is a tough color to fill a photo with and still capture the essence of the shot. Well done! I would have liked a closer crop on the bee, or perhaps a wider crop to allow the background flowers to show also. Nicely done. Judge 2:Very nicely done. There must be a story about patience here too. The detail in the bee excellent. I would like to see more of the bee, and think it could be accomplished by cropping the top making the image closer to an 8x10 format. The flower petals serve as great leading lines. Judge 3:Great background composition really sells the mood.

Snack Time

Judge 1:Right spot….right time…sometimes makes a good shot. Nice capture. To get close is the hard part here. The detail is fine, but more of the lizard would have given more detail to a nice shot. Judge 2:The only thing that I think could make this image better is to make the lizard's eye more prominent. Perhaps that is done by burning the background, dodging the eye or both. Judge 3:Super image and what a moment!

Monarch

Judge 1:Always a pretty subject…and not very easy to capture. Watch the bi-secting of the subject with leaves, sticks, etc…. Background is everything in a shot like this. Judge 2:Good composition with placement of the butterfly in the frame and its perch. The burning in the corners is a little overdone (especially the top left). The concept of burning is good, but it doesn't take much of a difference to keep our eye on the subject. Judge 3:Nice composition, but focus is a little behind subject and subject is maybe a little overexposed.

Judge 1:Who doesn't love a picture of a baby!!??!! Watch the background and DOF. The dark black in the background take away from the shot. Judge 2: Cute baby, but the entire image is too blurry for my taste.

The Flower Girl

Judge 1:Solid shot! Great subject. Great lighting. Great capture! The doorknob takes away from it some, but not much. Nice. Judge 2:Very creative shot. The backlight and the cropping really help. In spite of the bright backlight the photographer kept the image from being a silhouette. The focus is soft and the only thing that keeps this from being outstanding. Judge 3:I like the reflected light silhouetting girl and backlighting her hair and dress, which would otherwise be lost. PS effect is OK but I am not sure if it is necessary.

Pepsi, please!

Judge 1:Cute shot! Simple story told well. Watch the clutter in the shot. Crop to avoid distractions. Don't abbreviate words in a picture. Judge 2:The available light makes this a very difficult shot to capture. There is extreme bright in the bottom-left, and extreme shadow in the top center. One way to deal with these light conditions is to crop tight on the boy with the bottles. The fact that he is standing on his toes begs for him to become the sole subject of the image. The it may be possible to reduce the shadows with some Photoshop tools. Judge 3:Nice irony shot. I would like to see the man's face. Also the sunlight on the boy's rear is a little distracting - and don’t take that the wrong way!

Flower Beside the Pond

Judge 1:I would have liked to see the flower against a black background. The other flower takes away from the beauty of the foreground. Still….I like it. Nice. Judge 2:Exposing the white flower in the bright sun is done well. There are a couple of places that detail is lost in the highlights but they are not too distracting. Since the image is centered in the frame it would be better to go ahead and crop it to square. Judge 3:Nice shot. Dead blooms and webs kill the mood of the vibrant bloom. White areas ok but maybe slightly washed. The brown thing on the right edge of the white petal detracts.
